Celebrating and rewarding screen professionals from all sectors of the Australian Motion Picture Industry, including Production, Distribution, Exhibition, Administration and Education.

Established in 1933, the Society of Australian Cinema Pioneers celebrates both the Australian Cinema Industry, and those who have worked for 20 years or more in its various sectors (including production, distribution, exhibition, administration or education). The 3,000-strong Cinema Pioneer membership is overseen by a National Executive Committee and by branches in all States.

WE CELEBRATE COMMUNITY

The Society’s principal object is “to facilitate, promote, and foster relationships and camaraderie, by means of Society Events, between persons who have provided sustained and committed service to the Australian Cinema/Film industry”.  In every state and territory across Australia, this camaraderie takes the form of social events and functions – from film screenings, dinners, casual get-togethers and local lunches – providing screen professionals with the opportunity to network and enjoy time with their former and current colleagues and friends. The growing community of Cinema Pioneers on Facebook and Instagram allows for an exchange of information and industry updates on events and awards.

WE REWARD SCREEN PROFESSIONALS

The Society honours those who have made a significant contribution to the industry by awarding National and State Pioneers of the Year.  The list of recipients of the Cinema Pioneers of the Year awards is a remarkable testament to the outstanding contribution of so many Australians.  From producers to projectionists, distribution executives to directors of photography,  the awards cover both well-known industry personalities as well as those who have worked quietly behind the scenes.  Additionally, thanks to the generosity of the exhibition and distribution community, all members receive a Cinema ID Card that grants complimentary admission to some films at many cinemas nationwide.

SUPPORTING THE ACP?

Our one-off membership fees support many of the Society’s activities, but we also rely on contributions from industry organisations and individuals for our ongoing costs – basic administration, maintaining the website, mail and email communications, and production of the Annual Bulletin. Your contribution will help Cinema Pioneers remain viable.
