We regret to inform the Society of the sad passing of member Ray Erenshaw, aged 88.
Ray entered the industry via his involvement with the family’s Strand Theatre in Ashford (NSW). For many years he was the very proud operator of the Regent Theatre at nearby Delungra. He also operated picture-shows in Inverell and district, and managed a number of suburban theatres for Hoyts.
Ray later followed his life-long interest in aviation, shifting to Western Australia to operate scenic flights in Witenoom as well as the local caravan park. With his wife Irene, they then operated a gift shop as well as a highly successful Air-Charter business in Kalbarri before retiring to Mandurah, south of Perth 12 years ago.
With his family around him, Ray passed away unexpectedly from medical complications in Hospital on Wednesday 28th February 2018. He is survived by his wife Irene, daughters Carolyn, Mandy and their families.
A gentle and humble man of great integrity, Ray was incredibly proud to have his long contribution to the cinema industry recognised as a member of the Cinema Pioneers, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
