Kim Williams AM has received the Australian Cinema Pioneers Humanitarian Award, it has been announced.

In announcing the Award, President of the Society of Australian Cinema Pioneers Lori Flekser said: “This Award recognises industry professionals who have made a significant and positive contribution to the Australian creative industry and Kim Williams embodies that ideal. Instrumental in shaping, evolving and advancing the creative eco-system throughout his career, Kim’s skills, intellectual contribution and generous philanthropy are well known. He is also recognised for his tireless passion for the creative industry, for nurturing great talent and championing great screen content, for his fearless leadership, his efforts to establish policies that support creative endeavour and his determination to ensure the industry thrives both commercially and culturally.

In receiving the award, Mr Williams said “It is a great honour to receive this award from the Society of Australian Cinema Pioneers. I have had the fortunate life in having had cinema as an intimate part of it since I was a young child. My father, David Williams, was a passionate cineaste, exhibitor, and investor in original Australian film from Picnic at Hanging Rock through many other major moments in the renaissance of the industry. In my own modest way, I have been fortunate enough to have been able to support initiatives for Australian documentaries, writers and through a wide variety of commissions of numerous Australian composers and of course to support the Motion Picture Benevolent Fund and other initiatives in support of our vital creative community. I love the industry, its work, its audience and above all what it does to drive social cohesion and confidence through the inspiration that great cinema uniquely offers.”
